Reflection on Oral Presentation

Team BES is the best! Haha, I am not trying to be pompous, but team BES is always the best to ME just because who we are. Despite the extended period of time and countless brain cell sacrificed while working on our proposal, oral discussion and oral presentation, this project has indeed fostered the friendship among three of us which no other can replace…

Eh hmn, I should start focus on the topic of this blog - my self reflection on the oral presentation. I will do it according to the guide list posted on IVLE.

Verbal
First of all, the content covered by three of us was clearly related to each other. The transition and overall flow of the whole presentation was also smooth. Besides, three of us have done a satisfactory job in “answering questions completely,  knowledgably and politely.” It might be because three of us knew our goal and reasons behind our suggested solution well.
However, we did not used much creative approach to grab the attention of the audience. The audio quality of the video shown was not satisfactory due to the excessive background noise in the canteen. Yet, I personally think that Sheila is a good actress and she did delivered the message using appropriate non-verbal cues… agree?
On a personal level, I think I was not confident and calm enough during the presentation. In fact, I did missed some of the points prepared. I should have practiced more to make sure I have all the key points at my fingertips beforehand.

Nonverbal
In my opinion, we did paid attention in many nonverbal aspects such as enthusiasm in delivering the message, effective eye contact, appropriate gestures, facial expression, listening skills and respect to each other during the presentation and while answering the question.

How about you, my dear classmates? Do you agree with me? Please feel free to voice up your comments and all feedback is highly appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Hi Elin!

Yes, I agree that the video was not very audible, due to the background noise I suppose.

Some of the points I noted down:
    - Confident and clear delivery (that's contrary to what you think, haha!)
    - Good eye contact
    - Good use of the 58% statistic
    - An issue here, the target should be the authorities - so I'm not sure about asking people whether they have used the NUSCC

    Yup that's all I have.

    Your positives:

    1) Good gestures when presenting
    2) Exellent eye contact
    3) Good interaction with the audiences
    4) Nice smile through out the presentation

    The negatives:

    1) A bit of stuttering due to nervousness i guess

Overall, it was a good presentation. Keep up the good work! =D

  3. Hi Elin,

I firmly believe your proposal is very important and helpful for everyone. And i also learnt a lot from your presentation. thanks

as for the presentation, i think you conveyed your message very well, with confidence and enthusiasm. just one negative point: the overall presentation was a little too long...

hope we all can learn something from it:)

  4. Elin!

You did well! (sorry for such a slow response. I had another presentation today. haha.)

So yes, even though you missed out some points, the overall message is still there, staring clearly at the audience. and i think that's the most important thing. =)

And surprisingly, our content of reflection is almost similar. I was amazed when i read yours just now after posting mine. haha. truly twins!

  5. Hi Elin
It was good experience listening to ur presentation.
I find your voice clear and loud. And you posed a question to the audience to get them engaged which I found really good.
Some things I find you may improve on are:
    1) look at the screen less frequently
2)add more pictures to the slides

  6. Hi Elin,
I think you did a good job!
You had good eye contact with the audience and you also looked very confident. You always kept smiling during the presenattion.
However, at first, I didn't quite understand what the head of NUSCC had talked to you guys. After the Q&A session, I understood her ideas. I think maybe you could emphasize the main points of that lady.
    Thanks for your effort!

    - smile throughout your presentation

  8. Thank you Yong Feng, Edmund, Senlin, Nan, Sheila Cosine and Hau for all the constructive comments! I was not aware that I did looked at the screen that often until you all reminded me and after I watched the video recorded :p

  9. Hey Elin!

As always, you had a brilliant and confident smile throughout the presentation. Keep it up! AND your clothes were so formal and appropriate.

Generally you were fluent and spoke at an acceptable volume. Good stance and gestures too! Great job answering the endless questions from the audience.

The content of the presentation was however confusing at some parts. I had to think about the link between what you were saying and the aim of your presentaion.

But other than that, good job! You should hand in your proposal to someone relevant :)

    :) Pavi

  11. Starting from the video, I do not understand the video objective actually. The NUS EU would not care about how you come up with this topic and how you conduct the interview. It should be more problem-centric as an evidence for your problem and solution. The quality of the video is not good as well and could add the subtitle if possible. Your topic should be identified from the start and clear.

The other one is my personal preference. Try not to use the clip arts in biz and formal presentation since it seems naive and childish. Good quality pictures would be a bonus in visual aids.

Your presentation is good but other details should be taken care of and too much time is spent on the background.
